Lego comes to Marwell Zoo

Winchester

A Hampshire zoo is to become the first in the UK to host a collection of giant animals – made entirely of Lego. More than 80 sculptures representing 25 different species will be installed at Marwell Zoo in a bid to get children connected with nature in the Great Brick Safari.

The creations were made by Bordon-based Lego building company Bright Bricks, with more than two million little bricks used to make them.

Among the display will be a one-and-a-half tonne elephant, a life size Bengal tiger and a trio of giant panda cubs.

James Cretney, chief executive of Marwell Wildlife said: “Families love being around the nature at Marwell and the LEGO brick trail will be a fun and engaging way of highlighting some of our really important species, as well as welcoming some exciting new animals to the zoo.

“We are delighted to be the first zoo in the UK to host an interactive Lego brick experience.

“We know our guests both young and old are going to absolutely love the trail.”

Other sculptures will be inspired by Marwell’s own collection of animals, with a red ruffed lemur, a warthog and a mob of meerkats all featuring.

Fans will also be able to try their hands at making their own animal sculptures in the in the play area, with the trail included in admission, running from August 1 until October 1.
