Visit to London Ashford Airport

Folkestone

There was a bonus in store for the attendee’s of the recent Shepway Advisory Board meeting, when they visited London Ashford Airport in Lydd on the Romney Marsh.

The meeting was informative, with a great presentation from Edna Delaney of the Romney Resource Centre to talked about the excellent work they do there for local businesses.

Hani Mutlag, London Ashford Airport Finance Manager escorted some of the attendee’s around the airport by coach, to see the proposed 294m extension plans.  The extension was given the go-ahead by the Secretaries of State for Transport and Communities and Local Government on 10th April 2013 following a 7-year planning process. On the 16th May a Judicial Review agreed with the Secretaries of State's decision to grant Planning permission.

The tour culminated in a drive down the runway.  Lorraine May Centre Manager of Basepoint Folkestone said ‘They even put the runway lights on for us.  Not many people can say they had been driven down a runway!’
