8TH JUNE - 350TH COMMEMORATION EVENT AT THE HISTORIC DOCKYARD CHATHAM

The Dockyard will be hosting an event on Museum Square on behalf of Medway Council to mark the 350th Anniversary of the Battle of Chatham/Dutch Raid (1667). The event will also be the formal opening of ‘Breaking the Chain’ – our summer temporary exhibition in No 1 Smithery – The Gallery. The tickets to this event are FREE! Please note that the site will not be open to the public on this day and if you would like to join us for this event, you will need to book tickets to enter. This includes visitors that hold current annual tickets.

This Event will mark the formal start of ten days of Anglo-Dutch activities in Medway to commemorate the 350th anniversary of the Dutch attack on Chatham in 1667. The event will be attended by invited guests and the public- from our online ticketing system.

The ceremony will include a parade by a naval guard provided by a visiting Royal Navy Warship, speeches and a parade with performances by the combined British and Dutch Royal Marine Bands (The Band of HM Royal Marines Portsmouth and the marine Band of the Royal Netherlands Navy) – one of the very rare occasions when they will perform together.

Tickets to this event are FREE and are allocated on a first come, first served basis. Guests are advised to arrive between 1pm and 1.30pm ready for the event which will begin at 2pm and finish at 3pm. Our attractions and exhibitions will not be open for general admission on this day and guests attending the event are required to leave the site by 4pm.

The Historic Dockyard will NOT be open to normal visitors on this day – if you would like to join us for this event, you will need to claim your FREE tickets to enter. This includes visitors that hold current annual tickets.
