Hampshire Mayors visit to Basepoint Havant puts spotlight on local businesses

Havant, Waterlooville

Mayors from around Hampshire visited Basepoint Havant on Tuesday 16th April as part of ‘The Civic Business Day’, which showcased Havant as a centre for skills training, manufacturing and entrepreneurship.

The Mayors were taken on a ‘business-focused’ tour of the region, which included a stop-off at Basepoint. Executive Director of Basepoint, Brian Andrews, and Basepoint’s Business Development Manager, Martin Miller, both gave an insightful presentation on what Basepoint has been doing for small businesses in the area.

The Mayors were then introduced to some of the centre’s most successful licensees, including DVS Technology Ltd (DVST) and Lizard NDE Ltd, a joint venture that deploys cutting-edge technology and equipment to the utilities and civil engineering markets. Based in the centre, the companies’ technology has the capability to predict where underground gas and water pipes are going to fail before the event, allowing utility companies to take action in advance.

They were also introduced to Over the Wall, Basepoint Havant’s licensee and sponsored charity for 2013-2014. Established in 1999, the charity provides free life-changing activity camps to some of the UK’s most seriously ill children, supporting over 400 families throughout the UK.

Brian Andrews comments: “Basepoint’s eight business centres in Hampshire are home to 450 start-ups and SMEs, employing over 2000 people and providing 210,000 sq ft of flexible business space. We are proud to be part of such a bustling business community, and were thrilled to be involved with The Civic Business Day that showcased Hampshire as a real centre for entrepreneurship. The day was a great success, and we’re thankful to Havant Borough Council for organising such a spectacular event.”
