Tewkesbury Borough Council has been successful in its bid for a share of £95m of government funding, after achieving ‘High Streets Heritage Action Zone’ status - and the funds will go directly towards bringing new life into the high street.
£2m of funding was bid for by the borough council and work will now begin with Historic England to develop the plans and the budget required.
The borough council plans to pour the money received into a range of projects, which will collectively regenerate the town through investment into its historic fabric.
Excitement is rising for the famous Tewkesbury Mop Fair which takes place on 9th and 10th October. This is the largest street fair in Gloucestershire with fun fair, fairground rides, traditional games, sideshows, stalls and attractions in Tewkesbury town centre. The Mop Fair dates back to 12th century when farm hands, labourers, servants and craftsmen looking for work, would take along a piece of equipment to represent their trade. Those with no specific skills would carry a mop head to signify they were free for work, hoping a prospective employer would spot them in the crowds.
The Centre Management team at Basepoint Tewkesbury were delighted to take part in MacMillan's biggest fundraiser of the year by hosting a coffee morning at the centre on Friday 27th September. The event was a huge success with a great turn out from our licensees with some fabulous cakes enjoyed by all.
It was a lovely event and a really nice way for people to get together. Thanks to the generosity of our licensees we raised an amazing £225 for MacMillan Cancer Support. A massive thank you to everyone who donated.
