Stress Awareness Month at Basepoint Exeter with Licensee Devon Academy

Exeter

As part of Stress Awareness month. Basepoint Exeter teamed up with their Licensee Devon Academy to learn some simple de-stress techniques and treatments that can be carried out at your desk!

According to the Health & Safety Executive Statistics; 12.5 million working days lost due to work-related stress, depression or anxiety in 2016/17.  In Stress Awareness Month, we wanted to be able to assist the businesses in our centre, with some practical help on reducing stress in the workplace.

With the help of Devon Academy, who provide ITEC Accredited Massage Training and are based at the Exeter Basepoint Centre, we were able to do this.  Practical sessions were booked in during some lunch hours where employees could learn about:

- Hand & lower arm massage and how to prevent carpal tunnel of the wrist and forearm.

- Pressures and stretches to alleviate neck and shoulder pain and also for lower back and legs; and explain what happens when you sit for long periods.

- Simple measures to offload stress during the day.

In addition businesses in the centre were offered the opportunity to have "Office Taster Sessions" for their teams which included a 10 minute shoulder and neck massage.

Donations were pledged to our Licensee Balloons Charity who work in Exeter, Mid & East Devon area providing support for children, young people and their families before an expected death, or following the death, of someone significant in their lives.
