Woody's owner talks market history as beloved family business says goodbye to historic Tewkesbury pitch

Family-built and family-run is the core value of beloved Gloucestershire business 'Woody's' fruit and vegetable market. The recognisable shop over the years has had patches in Gloucester, Cheltenham, Cirencester, Tewkesbury and Bristol. As times and business have changed, Woody's has stayed true to itself and its values. Recently, however, the business announced that it would not be reopening its beloved Tewkesbury Market patch, where they have been for nearly 30 years, so they can instead focus on their farm shop in Mitton.

The ancient Gloucestershire monument which sits in a garage forecourt off the A46

The forecourt of a petrol station is an unlikely place to find an ancient monument. But a mile or so out of Tewkesbury, the garage at the Teddington roundabout has this unusual distinction. Called the Tibblestone the gnarled and rounded old rock is naturally pierced here and there, as ancient standing stones of this kind sometimes are. The purpose it served is open to debate. Some such stones were placed as markers along established routes – and the Tibblestone does stand alongside an age old way. Other tall stones were used to identify burial places, or were the remains of long barrows. Yet another function was to mark a boundary and this is most widely believed to be the function of the Tibblestone, which stands at the edge of what was once called Tibblestone Hundred.

Tewkesbury company given funding to defend UK military from cyber attacks

A Tewkesbury company has been funded to defend UK military systems from cyber attacks. Montvieux Limited, based in Mill Street, Tewkesbury, are one of three businesses chosen by the Government to help guard the military. The Defence and Security Accelerator (DASA) has announced nearly £1million to further develop technology that predicts and counters cyber attacks. Montvieux have been awarded almost £250,000, after having already been given £121,071.46 in phase one of the project. Rebecca Duncan, project manager for the Government, said: “Cyber security has been in an arms race for decades, with hackers continuously exploiting new vulnerabilities while developers race to patch them.
